The Top 5 Most Under-Rated Beauty Brands

As I was speaking to a few fellow beauty bloggers, it was a consensus that the drug-store makeup market is completely and utterly under-rated. With the rise of affluent YouTubers and celebrity makeup brands such as Fenty Beauty and Kylie Cosmetics, drug-store makeup has gone into a decline. Here are a few of my favorite drug-store makeup brands. X

Milani Cosmetics

Milani Cosmetics is who I turn to when I need a natural glow so I will use their bronzers and sometimes concealer for a basic cover-up.

Wet N’ Wild is mostly known for their Color Icon Lipliner and it never fails to finish the look.

Physician’s Formula specializes in makeup and skincare. For me, their tinted moisturizer is what sets them out and can be a dupe for most SPF moisturizers from Sephora, Ulta, etc. And it is organic and cruelty-free!

E.l.f. Cosmetics is a brand that really introduced me to make up and can be used to continue on in life. It is my absolute favorite brand.

Going into skincare one more time, you may have seen Alba Botanica from their commercials with Ocean Ramsey – a shark conservationist and marine biologist. Their brand exerts a tropical escape vibe. Their products are really good and worth a try.

Break-Ups and Make-Ups

This week – or month I shall say – has been tough, but at least it was quick. November 1st felt like it was just last week. Throughout the month I had to make some difficult decisions: breakups. I had to take a break from learning French because it felt like I was massacring the language. It was the best for both of us and hopefully, we can come into terms once more in the future.

I also had to break-up with my habits. I always tended to do the opposite of what my friend’s tell me, and that has led me to nowhere but heartbreak. Why is that? My heart was overpowering my emotions and choices. It was difficult to think clearly. Many people around me have been dealing with a similar situation. Getting back with a boyfriend who cheated on you multiple times with multiple people and multiple sexes just because you love him was a common one. It deems you as stupid in love, but how can it be love when it’s one-sided? If they cheated on you, they know what they’re doing and they obviously don’t have these feelings anymore, or perhaps, never had any in the first place.

Nonetheless, I had made-up with my confidence, thinking more inquisitively about my choices, knowing my boundaries and setting my expectations a little higher. I took a day off, sick, and thought of all the things I am thankful for.

I am grateful for my lovely family, I am grateful for this blog that has given me an outlet for my creative ventures, and I am grateful for my wondrous friends. Although I was thankful for the people around me, I needed to take a day off. I was randomly shopping at the Dollar Store, don’t ask why haha, and I came across Your Inner Will: Finding Personal Strength in Critical Times by Piero Ferrucci. It was the perfect time to pick up this book and has helped me so much with looking at things from a different perspective.

I have also been loving this scent from Victoria’s Secret, the Bombshell Seduction.  It is something I would wear more in the Springtime, but I received it as a birthday gift, so too early! The tricky thing about Victoria Secret fragrances is its wearing longevity, this one lasts a pretty long time for me though. I have learned that if you add petroleum jelly, Vaseline, on your perfume points, it will last longer. There are other ways too, but I will explain that in another post.

Femme Fatale: An Energy

It’s been a month since my last post and it has been really hectic. A lot has been going on and especially for the people around me. What I’ve noticed is that tis’ the season of women. This season I’ve noticed more women taking power especially taking female sexuality to their power. I’ve been inspired by this energy and give you Femme Fatale: An Energy.

This week has been an enlightenment, per se, of more of the alternative yet classical type of ambiance in the fashion and beauty world. I was really inspired by such icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Jones, musical artists such as Daft Punk and Frank Sinatra, and movies such as Pulp Fiction.

Anita Hemmings, late 70s

As of now, sheer is the classic version of lace. It is underrated and especially as a long-sleeve loose blouse such as this, but a bit more sheer and the cuffs to roll down, paired with a classic blue and white striped shorts such as this, but in a light blue color would look super sexy for a European get-away kind of look.

Camila Simões by Rafael Pavarotti for Harper’s Bazaar Brazil December 2016

The exotic colored blush really stood out to me because she has a natural complexion/look while the purple/pinkish blush really pops out. It is not a combination that is really shown or seen, so I was really inspired to do this for an every-other-day look.

Blanca Padilla
Duckie Thot for Pat McGrath, 2016

Let me just say, my love for Duckie Thot is big-hearted, so that made me love this look even more! Just as I said for Camila Simões’s Harper Bazaar photo, this pop of (glittery) color on a dark complexion is absolutely mesmerizing. The wing took it up a notch and gave me classical with a hint of a modern twist.

A Sweet Ending to a New Beginning: Havana, Cuba.

It’s been a month since I took a trip to Cuba with my family and for all this time, I haven’t had the opportunity to write about the excursion. We (being my sister and me) started with Havana, the central head of Cuba, with a population of more than 11 million individuals. It’s also the place which accommodates our family.

To enjoy the experience of this country (or any country, really), one must live like the people who live in the city. As of transportation, instead of renting a car, we traveled by bus. Every day we see things, we don’t usually encounter, have the leisure to talk to new people (only if you speak Spanish), and crazy things just happen. It was exhilarating. It was amazing. It was indescribable.

In Havana Vieja (Old Havana) is the place where there are many vendors and stores with marvelous things to offer. They have books, jewelry, clothes, etc. And the hotels are exquisite to admire. Many of the buildings’ architecture is inspired by the ancient Roman-Greco period. Especially the Capitol building. But one prime-time example is the Gran Hotel Manzana (The Grand Apple Hotel).

After a week in Havana, the entire family traveled to Varadero. The city of the celebration of life. It is composed of amazing beaches and heart-stopping clubs. The beaches are mostly found in man-made paths. It was like discovering a hidden wonder.

Holy Grail of the trip:
